Spring flower blanket charity draw about the blanket

The Spring Flower Blanket was the idea of Heather from the blog The Patchwork Heart. The finished blanket is a work of art in crochet, made up of 120 intricate and beautiful flower squares.

Heather posts photos of  her work and chats to people daily on Instagram, as well as through Facebook and her blog.

Back in January Heather started a community crochet project to make a blanket to bring her IG followers together to achieve something wonderful. When the call went out for people to contribute squares, Heather was inundated with replies and the 120 slots filled up quickly. I was lucky enough to see the message shortly after it was posted and contacted Heather to be added to the list.

I tried quite a few designs and then decided to make up something of my own based on a hydrangea using the colours in Stylecraft Special DK that Heather had chosen.

Like the other 119 contributors, I sent off my square in the post and Heather gathered them all together, getting ready to start joining them together to make the Spring Flower Blanket in the February Half Term when she was home from work as a Maths teacher.

Seeing her posts on Instagram showing the blanket growing was really exciting. When the squares came together with a delicate lacy join in white, this really made their colours sing and the different textures and flower designs looked amazing.

On Saturday March 20th, the big reveal happened and Heather posted the first daylight pictures of the full and finished Spring Flower blanket.

Spring Flower Blanket Charity Draw 1

From the start we all knew that we would be entered into a draw to win the blanket – this draw was only open to those of us who had done a square. When the winner was announced on Sunday afternoon, 21st March, I was flabbergasted that it was me!!!!!

And after a couple of days thinking I decided that this wonderful community blanket could be once again at the centre of a community effort – one to raise funds for a cause very close to my heart – Marie Curie Cancer Care. Marie Curie nurses work tirelessly with people who have advanced cancer and with their families, to enable as many as possible who want to to stay at home in their last weeks and days.

The Spring Flower Blanket Charity Draw

I launched this on Thursday 26 March 2015. I haven’t yet seen the blanket in person – I am meeting up with Heather to receive it in mid April. I will be able to look at it  briefly before wrapping it carefully ready for its forever home with the winner of the charity draw.

This will take place on Saturday April 25th. It is open to anyone, anywhere in the world and a single entry is a £2 donation to the Just Giving page we have set up specially.

Enter the Spring Flower Blanket Charity Draw now!

Every £2 you donate will give you a separate number in the draw – and there is no limit to the entries you can have. But please, don’t donate more than you are comfortable with or than you can reasonably afford.
