Jewelled Forest superwash luxury sock yarn with 80% merino wool and 20% nylon. Spun and superwash treated in the UK. 100g skeins with 400 metres of yarn.
A lightly speckled and vibrant skein of sock yarn perfect for handmade socks whether crochet socks or hand knitted socks. Speckled hand-dyed sock yarns work really well in a plain or vanilla sock pattern and are sock quick to work up if you are used to making socks. A typical pair of hand knitted socks (for a woman size 5-6) would probably take around 70g of the skein, leaving plenty left over for heels and toes in another sock project, or in a lovely mini skein memory blanket.
The sock yarn is plump and smooth and feels lovely next to the skin. This base would also be perfect for next-to-skin garments and accessories such as sweaters, shawls, scarves, cowls, gloves and mittens.
All of my bases are ethically produced. My supplier visits the farms where the flocks of sheep graze whether in the UK mainland or in the British Falkland Islands. He knows the farmers personally and the sheep graze freely in their environment. The fleece are sorted, cleaned and supplied to UK mills for high quality worsted spinning. If the yarn is superwash, it has been treated in the UK, by a company in Yorkshire who use processes that are carried out to have as little impact on the environment as possible. They also ensure the highest safety for their workers.
