Bags dejavu: Episode 65 notes

Welcome to Episode 65 of the Crafternoon Treats crochet podcast, which you can view here:

In this episode I’m talking about quite a few things. One of them is the crochet bag projects that I discovered while decluttering. Its quite a while since I’ve shown these and back then, I didn’t have many followers. So its probably new to you… They are great bags too and easy to make. Now I’ve found them I’m going to use them for project bags.

I did an experiment with my local mill about 18 months ago and sadly, it didn’t prove feasible as it was too time consuming for the mill. But I also came across the results and thought they were too good to waste, so they are now in my Etsy shop.

By dyeing singles on plastic cones, and then getting the mill to ply them into yarn, I managed to create yarn that looked handspun, and a gradient effect too. It would have been so good if it had been cost effective… but some thing just aren’t meant to be.

I’ve put them in my Etsy shop at a bargain price for the amount in each listing but bear in mind that this is VERY rustic wool and only suitable for homewares such as bags and cushions.

I’m getting on well with my scrappy blanket idea which I describe in detail. Its not so much that the individual bits of yarn are memories, but rather the design of the blanket, which takes my back to my grandmother’s house and my childhood.

I’ve also started my own mini finishalong by getting to the end of the toe in my knitted socks and making some progress with the Honey cake shawl by Lisa Cook. I talk about the difference in crochet tension that can depend on your mood!

I have a few of the sock yarn minis still available in my Etsy shop – they are going fast and are on sale at the moment. These are just three of the colour ways available… Follow me on Instagram and see my Instagram stories for more shop news this week.
