After the stress to get my pattern, tutorials and blog post finished before Yarndale so it could be all ready for this Monday, I’ve really enjoyed the Stylecraft blog tour.
Today I thought it would be handy to have a quick run down of the tour so far and to let you know which blogs are posting their new patterns for the last two days. And I have some exciting news about the competition on my blog on Monday…
A quick reminder in case you missed the new bag pattern – here are all the links to the tutorials:
- Head off to the detailed pattern and tutorial for the main part of the rainbow tote
- Go here for the pattern and tutorial for the rosette decorations

More about the Stylecraft Special DK limited edition
I was really pleased with my rainbow tote bag buts is also been great seeing what the other nine bloggers have done with the same colours – and our designs and patterns are just so different. There has been a good mixture of knitting and crochet projects and visiting the different blogs has introduced me to some fab designers and bloggers that I was totally unaware of before. I hope you have enjoyed it and taken advantage of the free patterns and tutorials available.
When can I get my hands on this yarn pack?
This has been the question on everyone’s lips!
If you are lucky enough to have won one of the competitions in the tour, you will get yours very soon but if not, don’t fret.
The new Limited Edition pack of ten new colours in the Stylecraft Special DK range of yarn will be available after the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally the weekend after next. The price of the pack will be around the £10.99 mark – very good value for ten 50g balls of yarn (remember these are half the size of the usual Stylecraft DK balls).
We are a good way through the tour now and a lot of the patterns use only small amounts of the pack colours. My own rainbow tote bag leaves around half of most of the colours left, assuming you use Stylecraft Classique Cotton for the handles. I was going to think about something else to do with the rest and there is a definite item that I want to make for myself this autumn, so if I have enough time in the next couple of weeks I’m aiming to release it in time for when the first packs are sent out. Watch this space!

It also occurred to me that it would be possible to make some of the other designs from the tour, as they don’t use all of the yarn pack either. The lovely ripple scarf by Emma Varnum, who also did a knitted slouchy beanie, or the granny square scarf with those gorgeous rosette decorations by Angie at Le Monde de Sucrette. Janie Crowcroft also made a small bag – looking forward to seeing more about that on her blog soon – as well as two lovely cushion patterns that will be on the Stylecraft website in mid-October.
The other knitted projects – the ripple cushion by Helen at Josie Kitten, the bag by Phil at The Twisted Yarn and today’s hats by Julia of Hand Knitted Things are beyond my knitting skills but if knitting is your thing, you could make one knitted project and one crochet project.
If you buy the pack you will also be interested in combining it with the other luscious colours already available in Stylecraft Special DK – so check out Heather’s post at The Patchwork Heart. She shows how each new colour fits in with the existing colour pallete and combined the new colours with pre-existing ones in a rainbow granny blanket.
So who is left?
Well, on Saturday 3rd October its the turn of Sandra at Cherry Heart and on Sunday 4th October, the last day of the tour, its Sue Pinner at The 8th Gem. Can’t wait to see what they have done with these gorgeous colours.
Oh yes, its the exciting news I mentioned at the start of this post. The winner of the yarn pack up for grabs on my blog on Monday – Crafternoon Treats had over 1000 entries so my lovely followers did me proud!!!!!
But there can only be one lucky winner and its Vanessa Moore – who lives at the other side of the world in Australia. So pleased for you Vanessa and I hope you enjoy your new yarn 🙂
